    Given a continuing budget deficit and a new budget model, my most pressing duty is to ensure efficient, effective and strategic use of our limited resources. There are no easy choices to meet our budget deficit, which stands at about $1 million left.

    I am sharing news of a departure in our leadership team. Joy Ward, our associate dean for research in the sciences, was named today as the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. She will leave her role as associate dean by the end of February as she makes the transition from KU to this new opportunity.

Nicole Hodges Persley, our associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), has accepted a position as an associate professor at University of Missouri-Kansas City and will leave her current roles at KU at the end of the fall semester.

    As we move into the heart of the Fall 2019 semester, we are preparing for the transition to the Provost’s new Priority-Centered Management (PCM) budget. This will be the first time that the performance of academic units within KU will be used to make budget adjustments in the coming year.
